I first began teaching in high school at the suggestion of my own piano teacher. I loved the experience from the start - few things are more rewarding than watching a student develop their musical passion and skill from lesson to lesson. Although my initial emphasis is on the traditional Simandl approach to position playing, once the student has gained an appropriate level of technique, we will focus on the student's stylistic goals and musicianship. I encourage the student to bring other materials to the lesson, for example a school based music assignment or ensemble part or recording or any piece of music that the student wishes to learn. I am very passionate about music, and I try to motivate my students towards a similar love of music of all styles and genres. In 2014, I have completed my studies at Boston University, where I completed a PhD in Musicology with a focus on jazz of the 1930s and 1940s.
