I have been a private lessons instructor since 2006. The instruments I have taught include: piano, harp, saxophone, and clarinet with an emphasis on classical music. I have also worked as an elementary general music teacher since 2014. Our curriculum includes developing knowledge and skills in performance (vocal/ instrumental), literacy, history, composition, appreciation and evaluation. For all of my students, our first lessons will be focused on either setting a foundation for beginning musicians or finding what the student wants to work on to become a better musician. In my opinion, the most important foundational aspect of being a musician is developing a passion for music. No matter what level my student is at, we will work on having an appreciation for music. I began teaching in my late teenage years through a summer program provide through my church. The program is a week long program for kids ages 4-18 and during the program I gave lessons to over 15 students. Shortly after, I began to advertise my ability to give private instruction. My favorite part about teaching, is the idea of passing my knowledge on, and making sure that the student knows that he or she can accomplish anything with the right tools. I am thankful that my teachers have helped me reach a high level and play in amazing wind ensembles and orchestras, and I hope to give my students opportunities to do the same with my guidance. For every instrument I teach, I always focus on tone primarily. To have whatever instrument the student is learning, be it drumset, piano, or voice, it is of utmost importance to me to have them re-sounding the whole body of the instrument with confidence, and with passion. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more.
