He has won numerous awards including the First Prize at the 2012 Classical Minds Guitar Competition in Houston, TX. Ian has performed in masterclasses for acclaimed guitarists such as Lorenzo Michelli, Roland Dyens, Florian Larousse, Gabriel Bianco, Raphaella Smits, Jerome Mouffe, Marcin Dylla, Denis Azabagic and Jorge Caballero. I began teaching guitar 10 years ago after receiving my Bachelor's of Music with a Studio Art Minor from the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh. In 2008, I graduated with a Master's degree in Guitar Performance from the University of Wisconsin Madison while studying under internationally famed performer and recording artist Javier Calderon. For brass players, I use Arbans, Bordogni, and Blazhevich etude books coupled with Rubank and other duets to form a solid foundation. From there I try and let the students' own interest in music guide other parts of practice. With strings I like to start out with the Hal Leonard beginning books to get the basics of reading music. From there I couple learning popular tunes the student picks with developing method books to maintain a strong fundamental of playing. Read More
