I'e been playing since I've been a young child and have never been able to see myself do anything else. I am currently playing with the Dearborn Symphony Orchestra as well as the Michigan Philharmonic Symphony. I aspire to play with the Michigan Opera Theater soon and become a studio musician. I have lots of background playing in concerts outside of classical music such as rock, folk, and pop and love teaching such styles. Read More

I stress the importance of reading music from the get go. I do understand however that some (adults) only want to learn to play some songs for their own personal gain, and not have to mess around with note reading. (Guitar is an instrument that can be played by ear, and to some degrees at a high level.) To that I do not require any books. I'll always reiterate the importance of reading..."Just think how good Eddie Van Halen would have been had he been able to read music!" For Children: Mel Bay Children Guitar Method 1 (Blue Turquoise cover) For beginners steel string and jazz: Hal Leonard Guitar method book 1 (Black and Orange cover) For Classical: Foundations in Classical guitar by Brian and Mary Lou Roberts I ALWAYS strive for the student to become familiar with performing and playing with others. There really is no limit to which methods work for people. Every person learns their own way, and it is true that a variety of methods work for an individuals learning process. I enjoy employing all ways of experiencing music including playing by ear, reading sheet music, learning music theory and its practical applications, as well as playing with others and truly feeling what the music is wanting to say. I encourage lots of individuality and fun. Music is a way to express yourself. I'm never teaching for the purpose for the student to become better than others to win awards and perform at recitals. Self expression and achieving personal goals to me are far more important than winning competitions and on-paper accomplishments. I'll always tailor my lessons for each individual student, and I'll try my best to keep my lessons within the student's area of interest. Read More

I like to teach at your pace. If you want me to teach you songs, we can learn tabs and chords. Also, I can teach fundamental music theory which includes things like scales so you can solo on your guitar in certain keys of the song. The theory will also tell you which chords you can play, so if someone says play in G minor, you know what notes are the right ones to play. Read More

Music is my calling in life. My career in teaching started 30 + years ago and it has truly been a pleasure to see my students light up when they learn the songs they love. I started by offering private lessons in 1992 and soon had many requests from other students. I offer lessons for both electric and acoustic guitar as well as piano. Along with instrumental lessons, I teach music theory workshops for song-writers and music engineering workshops for musicians. Read More
