This was an eye-opening experience as I learned various techniques and styles from some very talented and well-known musicians.I studied music theory and jazz improvisation at Newtown High School in Sandy Hook, CT before going on to obtain my B.S. in Justice and Law Administration from WCSU, graduating in 2013 (the backup plan every family member suggested). Over the years I have been in many bands that include the following styles of music: Folk, Rock, Metal, Punk, and Reggae. Read More

I started teaching privately in 2010, beginning with in home lessons. Since then I have taught in a private studio, working with students of all ages, levels, and musical sounds. I have even taught classes at the college level, focusing on music theory and history of rock and roll. What I love about teaching music is how I get to share my passion for music and the arts with my students, show that how great it is, and guide them to reaching their own musical goals, exceed their own expectations, and grow as individuals. I like the Hal Leonard Guitar Method series, for guitar. I also use scales, picks, fingerstyle methods, and backing tracks to help get the students up to speed on a song or a riff they'd like to learn. It's important to understand the background of music, so I tend to also teach students the structure of a 12-bar blues progression and relate it to songs of yesterday and today. This enables students to get a well-rounded introduction to understanding timing, tempo, basic theory/progressions, improvisational ideas, and more! Read More

One of my first experiences teaching was in 2010 as a freshmen in college. I would teach my roommate different scales and some basic music theory. I really enjoyed helping him connect the dots and found it made a huge difference in the music we played together. To this day him and i are still close friends and are still making music together 8 years later. Since graduating college in 2014 my time has mostly been spent performing and touring. Read More

I tend to emphasize basics and fundamentals, as most teachers do. Developing facility, dexterity, and muscle memory is very important. I use simple exercises at first. In turn with various other exercises, confidence will gradually develop. Learning to play chords (rhythm guitar), and transitions between them is vital, to almost every style of guitar. Rhythm and awareness of the tempo and meter (beat) is also important, especially if the student will play music with others. Read More
