This is where I think it is fun to be creative because we are all different. Everybody has a different method of interpretation and I feel like that is my job to figure out what works for you as an individual. For example I will simply ask you questions like what style of music are you listening to and songs you want to learn how to play. It is also my job to know the difficulty level and how to guide you in the right direction to keep things fun! Read More

I will use what I learned at the University of Arkansas in my teaching methods and approach the guitar in a classical sense, meaning properly learning chords, scales, arpeggios and so on. I will have books that the student will learn songs and techniques from depending on the direction they want to go musically. If there is a specific song the student wants to learn I will help them work their way through it note by note. Read More

I love seeing students develop a deep and lasting passion for the guitar! I want every student to feel at ease and comfortable while learning and help them set goals that push them to achieve whatever they set out to, while eager to learn more. My hope is to provide lessons in a clear and easy-to-follow to manner, so they can not only make progress in the lesson itself, but carry forward what they learn into their day-to-day practicing outside of the lessons and utilize the techniques effectively toward their progress on the guitar. My methods for new students is to find out exactly what level they are at and accomidate. I have a collection of different books for children and for older students we can dive right in to a certain style. I do believe that every musician should have a stong understanding of the foundations. With a stong theory background I can push students to where they want to go. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 8 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 5 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More

I encourage the student to feel free and not to be afraid of mistakes, as mistakes will teach the student what sounds and feels like a mistake. Having the opportunity to play with someone without judgement is something every beginning student needs. When a child is learning to speak, we don't chastise them for poor sentence formation. I take this sam approach to music. I am all about the student feeling comfortable and secure in their playing. Read More

I started teaching guitar lessons in 1999 (20 years this year!) Since those days I've gotten two degrees and taught at colleges, and private institutions, as well as high school and middle schools. I've found that combining textbook music instruction along with learning to play some of the music the student is listening to keeps them growing and engaged. Most importantly it makes learning music fun! I love jazz and I encourage efforts of composition and improvisation to help the student take ownership of the notes they're learning. Read More
