I have taught private lessons for 15 years. I emphasize the practice makes perfect rule of thumb. I tell my students you're not studio/performance ready until you can play through a song 10 times without error. I encourage improvisation. I always say if you can count to 4 you can start learning in less than 10 minutes. I stress the importance of practicing every chance a student gets. This is my first experience teaching guitar, but I've had plenty of experience (12+ years) with tutors, band directors, and fellow musicians to have a feel for what "works." I believe in approaching students with an individualized approach, tailoring methods and exercises for different pupils.
