I teach the fundamentals of music, and I make sure you know how to read music. Piano can be a challenging instrument to learn and play, but I can teach you the tricks to make it easy. For example, I can teach you to play and sing Beatles songs in two to three weeks. I highly encourage my students to be creative, but I don't require it. Creativity can be utilized even when you are playing Mozart or Bach. I also teach improvisation, songwriting, and music production with Ableton Live. I can even teach you guitar if you want.
I began teaching a small handful of students just before I entered college. It wasn't until after college I decided to teach on a more consistent basis for the last 2 years. Life with music is not only a journey but a lifestyle. I encourage and enrich my students in the hope they take their studies with them for life. I train my students classically with a mix of modern and childrens music. As they progress and have come to me with realistic goals, I tailor their studies to help meet their needs. I also work in the Montessori setting, which I absolutely love, and I have incorportated some of the movement into younger students lessons to make learning fun and interesting. Students are encouraged to perform in recitals and to reach out to their communities musically.
I'm very encouraging and patient! I really think everyone goes at their own pace and anyone can get to what's fun about music for them with some practice. I'm here to help in any way. And am great at looking for what makes you tick, specifically, and then structuring lessons around what is inspiring and exciting to you.
My teaching experience varies for each of the instruments I instruct. I began teaching private lessons for guitar in 2004. My voice instruction began in 2009, and the rest of the listed instruments I began to teach in 2012. I believe consistent daily practice is essential for improvement in my students, and encourage my students to log their practice time. In the words of my professor Todd Woodbury, "You do not become a master from what you do within these lessons. You become great by how much effort you put into the application of my guidance through your own practice." I cannot make you the performer you want to be. I can only guide you through the process. This is why I am always excited to bring on a new student. Each student I have worked with holds a special place with me. I strive for those key moments when my student comes to a new musical understanding.
I teach for several different schools in the Seattle area in addition to Musika. I've taught mandolin to an elderly woman who wanted to sing German folk songs to her grandkids, I've taught piano and ukulele to kindergartners, I've helped teenagers write their own songs and perform them to peers, and I've helped dads in their thirties to relive the glory days of Shoegaze and Grunge. With all of these students, I've helped them love the subtle, intricate, surprising parts of music and how to not only play music, but have their life enriched by it and share that with others. In everything from reading music (both traditional methods and modern methods), ear-training, rhythmic drills, performance techniques, songwriting, and theory, I want you to get the very most out of our lessons.

Where possible, it is beneficial for younger students to begin their guitar lessons on a smaller sized guitar. Half or three-quarter sized acoustic guitars are the most suitable guitars for young beginners. Older students who can manage to hold their guitar comfortably may wish to start out by using an electric guitar. For $150 - $200, a brand new student model guitar can purchased. However, this price does not include the cost of buying an amplifier or guitar leads, which are essential for an electric guitar player, and will therefore incur additional costs. Students will typically have fun and enjoy playing an instrument dependent on how easy they find it to play. Consider that higher quality instruments are often nicer and easier to play when looking to buy a guitar.
Save time by having a teacher come to your home! No need to pack up and transport your guitar between lessons, and no need to guzzle gas either. The instructors in our network provide a private, customized one-on-one lesson for each student. Your home will also be both a comfortable and safe environment for your lessons.
Whatever your current ability level, we recommend that students wanting to take guitar lessons have a clear aim in mind. Maybe there is a song you have always wanted to be able to play? Or maybe you want to develop your songwriting skills? Whatever your goals may be, the experienced teachers in our network can help you achieve them with expert knowledge. Whether it be learning to play a sequence of chords, jamming a cool riff, or mastering that guitar solo, developing the required skills and co-ordination can take time. Taking regular lessons and practicing on a daily basis is the best way to achieve your goals.
Students aged as young as 6 years old are able to start taking guitar lessons with the expert teachers in Musika's network. For students of this age, we recommend that they start by using a half-sized classical guitar with nylon strings. They will learn to play simple melodies using the top strings of the guitar. By about 7-8 years old, students will be forming different chords and playing along to their favorite songs. When students get to about 10-12 years old, they may become interested in a specific genre, often rock music, and decide to learn on a full-sized electric guitar.
The teacher's in Musika's network plan guitar lessons with the specific requirements of each individual student in mind. During the course of their guitar lessons, students can generally expect to learn: how to hold, tune, and familiarize themselves with the components and notes of the guitar, basic playing techniques such as fretting, fingering, and strumming, and learning the various chord-types that they will need in order to play their favorite songs, such as power chords, open chords, and barre chords. Students will also get to learn music theory, and will cover such aspects as reading music, learning different scales, and how to apply these different elements together as part of a full composition. Students will learn the theory and techniques that underlie a wide range of musical genres, and will have fun developing their guitar playing during their lessons. Eventually, students will get to enjoy learning and playing along to their favorite songs!

Dan gave private clarinet lessons to my daughter, Annie, for two years. During that time, she excelled as a member of the middle school band, and maintained first-chair. Dan is an excellent teacher, and Annie looked forward to having one-on-one time with him. In addition to practicing pieces with her, he helped her with scales and greatly improved her tone quality.

We value Chelsea for the quality of her lessons, but also for the flexibility of her schedule. She has worked around family vacations, impromptu summer camps and the upcoming school year. Emily is better prepared to start middle school band this year due to flute lessons from Chelsea and we plan to continue the lessons for the foreseeable future.

Henry is teaching my daughter how to play piano. Henry is an excellent teacher, we really like and appreciate him. His teaching style works very well for my daughter, she is comfortable which makes learning enjoyable. Henry is very patient and I can see that he is passionate about teaching music. Great teacher for sure.

Kevin is very friendly and professional trombone teacher. During the first session he assessed my 12 year old son's strengths and identified areas for development. He has helped him refine his technique which helps our son in band class but also has him working on duets that help him grow in new ways. He comes to our home and is always very punctual. I would highly recommend Kevin!

We've only had a few lessons with Elisa, but so far we really like her. She has a lot of great suggestions for solo pieces as well as orchestral music that involves all 3 of my boys, while also including some Christian music that we can play at church. She is very patient in explaining the lessons and encouraging!

Omar is a great teacher as he provides expert instruction AND the right amount of encouragement. He is a professional musician on several instruments, yet he is patient with beginners! He also has gone out of his way to purchase an appropriate book for me, strings to re-string the cello, and extra attention to tuning. I appreciate how he explains and demonstrates exactly what a beginning cello student needs to know.

Michael is exactly what I was looking for in a teacher. The first thing he did was to determine what I wanted to get out of lessons, and what my existing skill level is. He is now aiming me in the right direction - and he is clearly skilled, experienced and knowledgeable, in addition to being very easy to get along with. I'm very happy.

I had always wanted to take vocal lessons, but was very nervous about it until I had the opportunity to have Ali as my instructor. She made me feel very comfortable and helped me realize my strengths while giving me other areas to work on and strengthen. I liked how Ali had me sing out of my "comfort" zone to realize my vocal range. It is obvious that Ali loves music and sharing that love with her students. She is very good at what she does and works well with both male and female voices. I highly recommend Ali and give her solid 5 stars

Our daughter has only been playing the piano since March. Tony replaced our other teacher who had a job transfer and could no longer teach. Tony is fun and encouraging. My daughter is playing Taylor Swift and Christmas songs and is playing the piano more than ever before. Very happy so far with Mr Tony
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
