ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:

BA, Northwest University, Contemporary Music Industry

Awards:

2011-2012 - Sound Technician for Northwest University's Jazz Choir

Overview:

I am a recent graduate of Northwest University, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Contemporary Music Industry.  I have played guitar for over 10 years and have taught for over 5 years, while teaching over 10 students.  Since beginning to play guitar, I have done a lot of writing and learning about music.  I have studied music theory for over 4 years and work as a sound tech in a few different venues.  I have also performed in multiple venues and still perform from time to time.

EXPERIENCE

I began teaching as a Freshman in college and had a few students throughout college.  Since graduating I have added students.  I have taught over 10 students in the last 5 years and am adding more almost every week.  I have the ages 7 to 45 and am open to teaching anyone.  My main goal in these lessons is making sure the student is learning what they want to learn and also having fun.

METHODS USED

In guitar lessons with me, I generally go through a guitar book (the book varies depending on the students experience and what we decide to use) but mainly focus on what the student wants to learn.  Learning the fundamentals of guitar will help the student learns what they want to learn, so that is applied to the lessons.   A typical lesson with me goes as follows:   Tune and warm up song (something the student is confident in). Work through 1-2 pages of a guitar book. Practice/Learn a song the student is interested in. Practice/Review chords, note-reading, and scales. End with a song the student likes and has been practicing.

LESSON STYLE

I want to make guitar lessons fun, helpful and informative.  If the student isn't learning what they want to learn and not having fun while doing it, I'm not doing my job.  Getting the student to feel confident, no matter the amount they have played is important to me.  I'm a laid-back, happy person and that reflects in the way I teach.  I will tailor my instruction to fit what the student wants to learn, and have done that in all the lessons I have taught.  I love music, and being able to teach it is something that inspires me and something I work hard at.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
