My music backround goes back to my pre-teen days with a toy guitar and singing in front of my second grade class. Formal training began in junior high with the saxophone which continued through high school and my college years at Fairleigh Dickinson University. I became interested in the guitar and played with many groups and ensambles. Then became interested in the violin and fell in love with it. I have been playing for the past fifteen years and teaching for five. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to 2009, as I began teaching private lessons part-time 11 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 4 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the guitar and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More

find that each student brings with them their own skills, strengths and weaknesses when learning music. I have observed that forcing the same study method to each individual can result in a student disliking and rebelling against music lessons. I will customize and provide a clear path using multiple resources to each individual student. Encouraging the student to develop a musical ear by selecting music that we can later review in class, and helping them achieve their music goals along with a solid foundation on music theory. The great thing about private one-on-one lessons is the individualized pace and learning style. I like to understand the most effective ways my student learns. Some students need to be immersing themselves in exercises that allow them to create and experience the music through a personal lens. Some students prefer to hone in on the technical work and theory. Both are important skills for a well-rounded player but depending on the student's personality they may be more inclined toward one or the other. Read More

I believe in setting clear goals so that progress can be easily seen. I also focus on the music that the students are interested in, and work on getting them up to a level where they are able to play (at least part of ) some of their favorite songs. Each student requires a slightly different approach. For younger students I generally approach it from a wide variety of angles and have them focus on method books in addition to learning more practical skills like rhythm guitar and tablature reading. I happily teach at a pace that is comfortable for the student. If he or she only has time for a couple hours of practice a week, then we will progress at an equally stable pace in our lessons. I like to use written theory and ear training, but only if the student wants to learn with that technique. Guitarists and bassists can study tab with me as well. I encourage the student to bring in music they are excited about learning as the students often expose me to great music I may not have been familiar with before. Read More

My teaching experience began with a few friends of mine in college. It was just for the fun of it at first, until others outside my circle of friends began to approach me about lessons, through word of mouth. I was soon known in my class to be the guy to go to learn more about music. In fact not all of these friends came to me for just guitar lessons, a couple I have taught beginner piano to as well.
