In my lessons, I like to start by helping the student really fall in love with drumming. You should only take lessons if you love and enjoy what you are doing. Then, I like to lay down a good foundation of rudiments and technique. I believe that by having a good understanding of rudiments and technique, it will greatly help eliminate many future setbacks when learning new/different styles. Without setbacks, the future always looks brighter. Read More

I use the bel canto method when I teach singing: simply put , beautiful vowel-based singing! This goes for all ages. I use standard warm ups such as those based on Estelle Liebling, as well as more non traditional methods such as those in CoreSinging and the Funky n Fun series. Overall I believe voice to be very customizable as a discipline and make sure each student gets what they need at every lesson- whether it's additional help with confidence in their ear if they are newer or more song polishing if they're more advanced or intermediate. Instruments: Piano Violin
I conduct my lessons based on students background, learning experience and their interests or goals. I like to use combined learning materials including classical music, popular music and chamber music. Also, anything students find interesting is welcomed in my lessons. Besides regular lessons, I encourage students to participate any kind of musical activities such as school talent shows, recitals. I hope my students would have solid music ability to explore any kind of music and love having music in their life. Read More

The best feeling is watching a student progress week by week. By opening up their minds to the world of music, I believe a student can learn more about themselves and the world around them. I always encourage of art of listening with my students. Whether it be a specfic sonata or just a classical music and/or jazz mix tape. When a student knows the potential for talent that exists, it makes the desire to be a good musician even bigger. Read More

I believe in setting clear goals so that progress can be easily seen. I also focus on the music that the students are interested in, and work on getting them up to a level where they are able to play (at least part of ) some of their favorite songs. Each student requires a slightly different approach. For younger students I generally approach it from a wide variety of angles and have them focus on method books in addition to learning more practical skills like rhythm guitar and tablature reading. My beginning students start out by learning music theory. We definitely have to establish and learn the fundamentals. Once they begin to learn the piano, I throw in modern day music to keep them interested. We start applying the concepts and theory into what they enjoy playing to continue to build the strong foundation. With my advanced students, I work on advanced chord knowledge, theory, improvisation, and training of the ear. Read More
Instruments: Trombone Euphonium
The point of music is to have fun creating art, sharing that gift, all while learning a skill that not many others are able to learn, but here are so many other benefits from what you learn that can be utilized for the rest of your life. These lessons include, but are not limited to discipline, work ethic, focus, problem solving, compassion, historical knowledge, and countless others. I am aware that not every person I teach will continue playing music for the rest of their lives, but if I can instill some of those above stated principles into my students, then that is a success in my book.
