I like to get to know what type of music interests my students, see what makes them excited. I then center my lessons around what they like. This makes them more invested in learning guitar if the focus is on their interests. Read More

I started teaching 7 years ago at the beginning of my college career and I have been teaching consistently ever since! I've had students from ages 4 to 60+ and taught individually, group lessons, and group classes. I began taking weekly private lessons while in elementary school and have had all kinds of teachers throughout my career as a musician; I truly value the music student to teacher relationship and kinds of lessons one experiences when studying music whether it's life lessons such perseverance, determination, patience, and acceptance or purely musical. A hybrid of traditional notation, playing by ear, basic right and left hand technique followed by custom lesson plans based on individual students' interests and artistic direction. My style is generally as relaxed or as focused as the student is ready for. Meaning that if the student is able to practice an hour or more a day that will lead to a more focused atmosphere, and if there's less time to practice then we adjust accordingly. Read More

I began teaching private lessons back in undergrad. I found that I really enjoy getting to know someone one-on-one, and I think I'm particularly effective at figuring out how to communicate knowledge, create art and inspire on that level! The experience of my students has run the gamut; I've taught 5-year old and 65-year old beginners, I've taught students who already have an undergrad degree in music. I have taught people who are actively performing, and expectant mothers who want to sing lullabies to their babies. Read More

I have been playing in original and cover bands for 30 years and I currently perform as a guitarist, keyboardist, and vocalist in a cover band that I founded in 1999. My band has appeared on VH-1 and we have had the opportunity to play up and down the East Coast. As a volunteer, I perform as an acoustic guitarist in a church music group every Sunday. I have been a part-time instructor at a local music store for 13 years and I am looking to sign on more students than they are able to provide. Read More

I tailor my lessons to the needs and levels of every student. I like to keep an organized electronic folder with PDFs for every student. Handouts on every specific topic are included in these hand-outs, some scanned hand-written exercises that I design for each student and some others extracted from books on different topics. Some books are suggested but I don't follow any single method although I find it very useful the Modern Method For Guitar by William Leavitt, the different books by Barry Galbraith for more advanced students, and The Jazz Conception series Read More
