Fun, energetic and productive! My students always say that they leave their lessons with a burst of inspiration. I love to teach my students the basic tools of what it takes to be a professional musician, whether or not they are into music as a hobby or as a serious profession. I currently play drums for the hit Broadway musical (non-union version) of Rock of Ages and when I'm not on the road; Read More

I am a full time performer and music instructor who works with all ages and various levels. I perform multiple times a week at public and private events like bars, weddings, and farmer's markets doing a wide variety of styles. I have an extensive repertoire of over 8hrs of pop, rock, RB, and more, in addition to over 2 hours of children's music. Over the years, I have performed in hundreds of venues with a variety of bands primarily on guitar and vocals, but have also dabbled in drum kit, keyboard, and electronic performance. Read More

After one summer there, I knew I would have to return for many more. Every summer I am astonished by how much fun students can have in just 3 weeks while they are working and improving their playing. The real skill I try to teach all my students is how to enjoy practicing. If a student can learn that, they will have a way to enjoy themselves for the rest of their life. Read More

I never imagined God had plans for me to be a music teacher. I had taken piano lessons for about 15 years (later adding recorder, guitar, violin, clarinet, saxophone, and cello) and was working as a front desk receptionist in a music school when a teacher notified us of an unexpected long-term absence. My boss--who had known me for almost 20 years, and who taught me piano-- approached me and said she would like ME to teach the affected students. Read More

I have been playing the drums for 16 years and the guitar for 18 years. I started by learning how to play rock beats and songs independetly and eventually started taking lessons from drummer, Martin Dosh of Andrew Bird's live band. Martin, a jazz and hip-hop drummer from Minneapolis taught me how isolation techniques and jazz/swing exercises derived from Hal Leonard's methods book. Since College, I have been playing in local and touring bands as well as teaching out of my studio space in Ukrainian Village, Chicago. Read More

No two students are exactly alike. Studies have proven that we all interpret colors differently, and it is the same for music and how we learn it. Though there are standard commercial methods that will help keep lessons focused, the goal is to find the best and most creative ways to use that information which will help build our understanding of music on a very personal level and not just teaching with a "learn this etude and come back next week" mentality. My main goal is to give each student the tools to be successful on their own. This is important because most progress is made outside of the lesson. This includes music reading and general knowledge of the music. I feel that success comes from the student feeling that THEY have accomplished something. Read More
