i start beginning guitarists out with Hal Leonard Guitar Method Book One, because even if a player is not destined to rely on traditional notation, they still need to know the names of the notes, so they can communicate with others. I approach ukulele somewhat less formally, because chords can be played right off the bat--singing is encouraged. For bass students, ensemble is stressed from the get-go--bass is inherently a goup affair. Read More

I place a strong focus on fundamentals, while customizing lesson plans based on the student's skill level and musical interests. Most importantly, I like to keep things fun for my students by finding out more about their favorite recording artists, and creating exercises that incorporate this into their learning. By connecting with these unique interests and encouraging regular practice, lessons are much more enjoyable for students. In addition , more traditional concepts such as music theory are also offered on request. Read More

I think it is important to learn to read standard notation as well as tablature. The student should clap the rhythms out when learning to read music. The student will start with easy exercises and gradually progress to harder ones. At a certain point the student should be able to stop playing exercises and learn by playing real pieces. The student will have to play some exercises at first but if they stick with it they will be able to play real music at a certain point and the guitar will become fun. Read More

I will study where you are at, whether it be beginner, advanced or anywhere in between and then I will help you develop your skill set further. One of the most important aspects of learning an instrument is practices on your own. Once you learn the lesson of the session, you will be able to take that home and memorize it for the next session. This way you will be getting the most out of each session, learning something new every time. Read More

For beginning piano students, I use a combination of books from Alfred's, Faber, John Thompson's. At the same time, I emphasize proper finger technique, shape, and position. For more advanced piano students I prefer exercises from Hanon, Czerny, and Bartk. For beginning guitar students, I prefer Mel Bay books. However, for guitar students I also use a much more individual and custom approach for learning how to get a good sound out of the guitar through proper hand position, finger placement and pressure, and string picking. There has been a lot that I have learned over my musical journey thus far. Teaching has been a fulfilling way to do share that! Building consistent processes for learning and practicing have proven very useful for students and myself alike. I make it a priority to structure lessons around every individual's musical goals and interests. Students will learn methods for their own artistic expression. Some facilitations of this could be songwriting, learning favorite songs, expanding knowledge of music theory, performance skills and much more! Read More
Instruments: Guitar Voice
I tried to do some training on my own with a couple of exercises that are said to improve the voice but that never seemed to work well on me. At that point I started to look for a voice teacher. I went through different teachers, techniques and methods, and learned some good exercises. I felt that I was improving a little but was never fully satisfied. A couple of years later I heard about the Rabine Method or Functional Voice Method. Read More
