My lessons are structured with attention paid to the fundamentals of each instrument and the fundamentals of music. I have learned that when a student practices a mistake over and over it remains a mistake. I immediately slow the student down and concentrate on just a measure or even two notes to accomplish correct rhythm, fingerings, articulations and phrasing. For beginning students who are children, I use a variety of methods, including Hal Leonard's Children's Guitar Method, Suzuki methodologies (I am NOT a Suzuki-certified teacher), and materials I've developed over my 25 year teaching career. I emphasize basic technique for the left and right hands, and I make sure they learn the basics of reading music. For older students (middle school-age to adult), I tend to let the student lead.
