Also, I have taught music and English as a Second Language in North Carolina Public Schools, and guitar classes in community colleges. My instruction has included beginning to advanced elements of playing the guitar and music theory as it relates to the study of guitar. Additional areas of study included: different genres of music; playing rhythms of different song styles; understanding chord diagrams & reading tablature; and developing improvisation skills by learning how chords fit in a musical key, and relative scales. What's important to me is that by the end of the day, they have learned something new, regardless of what it is. I maintain the pace of the students and I will make sure that they're learning at a comfortable rate. Usually I'll make sure that the goal for the lesson is obtainable and we can achieve. For beginning students, I typically start with materials from Mel Bay or Hal Leonard. Once a student has completed this, I begin to offer materials that are more specific to the musical genre that they have stated interest in. As a student progresses, I work to expose them to a variety of techniques with a focus on helping them to develop their own unique voice on their instrument. My hope is that, during this process, students would come to view growing in their musical gifts as an enjoyable and fulfilling process that continues throughout their life. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. I am an experienced music teacher with a background in rock, blues, and folk music. As a self-taught guitarist, drummer, and harmonica player, I have years of experience both teaching and performing music. After studying classical guitar, voice, and music education at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, I graduated from Appalachian State university with a master's in guitar performance in August of 2022.
