Phase 2: Simple Riffs and Tablature This is where we get into "lead" guitar. Simply put, this is the "one note at a time, faster" section. We'll start here by learning some catchy riffs within the students ability and interest. Speed will certainly develop in this phase and the student will be a more well rounded player. I generally ask what your musical interests are and then I find a method specific for each person. I work on identifying chords, improvisation,playing melodies and song writing as well. I am a fan of William levitts books or jazz guitar which is a method I learned at berklee and is a very useful book for picking teqnique in a fun way , exploring some classical etudes for electrical guitar and i find this to be a great tool for developing speed, ear training and identifying chords with different sonorities to them. I use written materials including songs that have already been written by other composers, as well as my own etudes so that the lesson can be properly practiced. Depending on the individual student's technical ability and style of music they wish to learn, I write practice exercises specifically catered to them.
