I have since then taught students with disabilities and students of all ages. I have around 1 years of experience with teaching. I started teaching music lessons privately in my early college years, and subsequently was hired as the bass instructor for a local music school. There I taught one-on-one lessons, as well as group band lessons. I like to approach teaching by finding what style of music the student identifies strongest with and then finding ways to incorporate theory, exercises, and technique into what the student already enjoys. taking music lessons should never be boring, and the easiest way to avoid that is to teach what the student enjoys. Some people find certain things easier or harder than others, so even if say I were teaching say two students of the same ability or progress level I wouldn't just give them excercises out of a book I'd customize the lessons so they could develop and build upon their currentskill level. When it comes time to begin working with a student, I always ask them what is their dream, their vision, and what is their reason for picking up a musical instrument. Their goal doesn't have to be rock stardom but they have to want to learn! I encourage setting up realistic goals, and giving them tasks and tools to pick up along the way. I'm a dedicated musician, playing guitar and piano 20+ years. I began lessons on piano at 6 and guitar at 12, also studying saxophone a few years. I grew up in a musical family and learned some piano early on from my father who played jazz. I took formal lessons through high school and studied classical guitar at Keene State College. I moved to the Boston area after that, playing in original pop/rock bands while continuing at UMass Boston, majoring in Music Composition and Education. Read More
