In teaching my students, I prefer to teach them to "play by ear", because when they learn chords and songs, they are usually able to play a snog by memory after hearing it a time or two. I not only show them the chords, fret board, how to hold the guitar properly, how to tune the guitar; etc. but, I also issue them handouts of guitar chord illustrations, fret board charts, and chord changes with words to songs for them to practice on between lessons. I believe communication is of the upmost importance. I communicate with parents to let them know how the student is doing, what we are working on, and what to do next. During my college years, I was a scholarship singer at First Presbyterian Church, and a member of the Sam Houston State University Chorale. Past experiences include singing with the UTB/TSC Master chorale, with which he performed at the Texas Music Educators Association. After completing my BA in public relations I was awarded a teaching assistantship at the University of Arkansas to teach the basic speech requirement. I became pregnant and did not complete my MA but began teaching private piano lessons part time while raising my children. As the needs of my family changed I began working with children in other ways such as coaching ball teams.
