I first began teaching music in 2006 as the trumpet instructor at Silver Creek Central School where I directed trumpet master classes for high school students. I later took on various private students teaching trumpet, guitar, electric bass, improvisation, and arrangement & composition. While earning my Master of Music at the University of the Arts, I served as the trumpet department intern and was responsible for teaching private trumpet lessons, preparing transcriptions for class materials and live performances, and proctoring music theory exams. Also at UArts, I was a teaching assistant for the Freshman Jazz Improvisation class for which I conducted sectionals, administered exams, and offered critiques regarding inventiveness of improvisations.
In regards to lessons it is my intention to first and fore most understand the student, what they want to learn, and why they want to learn it. -I have a strong understanding of music theory which is something I would like to pass on to my students. -I apply technique for getting comfortable with the instrument, as well as theory to understand the ins and outs of the instrument. I then apply all of that to the style of the student while introducing similar material the student might not know of.
I began teaching just over ten years ago at a music school and instrument retailer called The Music Place, where I worked for two years and had many long term students. It was a great experience but I left because the commute became too far so I decided to begin home lessons instead. This turned out to be a wonderful turn of events because home lessons can be much more open and relaxing since were not stuck in a little cube room half-way filled with a piano. My experience teaching for those first few years set the ground work for the methods I like to employ as a teacher. I found that self-expression found through music that the student enjoys, and then later music that they themselves create brings the most joy and magic to the students learning experience. I also have a knack for understanding where a student is confused when dealing with more abstract conceptual problems regarding music theory.
I've been teaching for over 9 years privately. Through my music career I've played in musicals, events, concerts and many more. I can not only teach a student the technique or musical aspects about an instrument but also help them and guide them in the logistics of performing, preparing and much more
I encourage people to do their best as well as go at their own pace. I set goals, If they exceed those goals in a week or 2 months, It doesn't matter, as long as they are trying their best. I make up games for the little ones, such as, having them to do online games involving music. For older students I try to still involve fun activities such as teaching them their favorite songs. I also, use Guitar Pro in order to teach those said songs and tab it out for them. I will either print it off or email it to them in either PDF or Guitar Pro files

Whatever your goals may be, teachers in our network can help you achieve them. Most adults want to pick up the guitar and immediately be able to play their favorite songs - this is possible with daily, focused practice. Taking guitar lessons will give you the technical skills required to steadily progress, no matter if you want to play jazz, blues, rock, classical or any other genre.
Students are able to start taking guitar lessons with Musika by the age of 6. Students of this age are advised to learn on a half-sized classical guitar with nylon strings, as it will be much easier to play. They will start by learning simple tunes on the top strings of the guitar. By age 7-8, students will have progressed on to learning to play chords and how to play and sing along to some of their favorite songs. At age 10-12, students are often able to hold a full size guitar quite comfortably, and may want to learn rock music on an electric guitar.
The teachers in our network create a customized lesson plan for every student, so no two students' lesson plans will be identical. Topics covered during Musika's guitar lessons may include, but are not limited to: learning the notes on guitar, proper fretting, fingering, and strumming technique, how to read music, learning all open chords, how to play barre chords, how to tune a guitar, music theory, and most importantly, how to have fun playing the guitar!
Before purchasing a guitar, it may be beneficial to get the advice of a teacher, friend or relative who has experience with guitar. Their experiences with local reputable music stores may be invaluable and save you a lot of time. The first options to consider are whether to buy a new or used instrument, and whether you want to buy an acoustic or electric guitar. Student models for either can usually be purchased for around $150-200. Used instruments do not always cost less, as some instruments retain their value; notably higher quality American made guitars like Fender or Gibson.
Musika offers customized one-on-one music lessons at your home - a time saving solution for busy parents and students. The convenience of in-home guitar lessons allows you to save time without having to transport your child to class, allows your child to maximize their busy schedule, and provides a safe and familiar environment in which to learn.

My daughter, Valarie is one of the original members of the Enrichment Center Percussion Ensemble under the guidance of Aaron. He patiently worked with Valarie as well as the other five members individually and as a group to produce music that has been shared and enjoyed locally as well as nationally. He has the ability to seek out the strengths of each student while building confidence. Through his teachings, not only had Valarie learned how to produce and enjoy music, but also responsibility and so many life skills for everyday living.

I started taking voice lessons from Ali when I was 19 and a sophomore in college. Though I was hesitant to be starting "late", I felt very comfortable with Ali and her teaching style. We identified several key issues that really made a difference and improved my voice technique. It was fun to sing popular, beautiful songs in our recital! If only I lived in Los Angeles, I would still be a student. Highly recommended!

After my first piano lesson, Polina is easily the best teacher I could have hoped for. Extremely charismatic and excited to help YOU learn the piano. She puts a lot of effort into evaluation your learning style and will no doubt help you make tremendous strides! I'm stoked to continue taking lessons!

Caitlyn is friendly, helpful and still holds my high-school aged daughter accountable for practicing. She also makes sure the music technique is mastered correctly during the lessons - they work hard and still have a good time together. I can highly recommend her as a flute teacher. My daughter is very happy & grateful to have found Caitlyn as a teacher.

I started my 5 yr old daughter with Karleen this Fall. Karleen has a calm and honest disposition. My daughter adores her and cannot wait for her arrival. I was concerned because my daughter is not so willing to "practice" during the week. Karleen advised me to allow her habits of practicing to evolve naturally as her love and understanding of piano increases. She emphasized how nurturing my daughter's love of music is most important. This was music to my ears :)

Giorgi has made learning cello even more fun. From the sympathetic, "It is hard" to the precise, "Be careful about the curve of the thumb" he has strengthened learning in every lesson, without being overwhelming. He started playing a little duet on only the 3rd lesson or so, which made me feel, even as a beginner, that I'm already starting to make (occasionally screachy) music. He has suggested a variety of drills and practice techniques which have also sped up the process a lot. And he has a good sense of humor and surprising amount of patience.

My daughter began learning sax in her school band, but she didn't begin PLAYING sax until she started lessons with Debra. From scales and exercises to actual pieces, Debra coached my daughter with real insight, sensitivity, and patience. Her knowledge of the instrument and feeling for music - along with her easy-going,"kid friendly" personality - make Debra the ideal teacher and musical mentor.

After signing up for lessons with David L. I knew I made the right choice. Just after a couple of weeks I didn't see him as a teacher but as a best friend. There was always a relaxed atmosphere during the lessons. He was very easy to talk to and he really listen to you. If I ever had a question he would answer. He tailors to what ever you want to do in that lesson. David L. is a great teacher and a friend. I totally recommend him for anyone
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
