I am a guitarist and composer and just moved to New York from Philadelphia. I teach as an official guitar instructor at the University of Pennsylvania and work as a freelance musician in both cities. I also compose original music and have scored several short films and documentaries. I have been playing guitar for 15 years, and I listen to and play a very broad range of styles, from rock, pop, classical and jazz to Middle Eastern music.
I am a knowledgable musician who enjoys teaching classical guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar and musical theory. I graduated from Bloomsburg University in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts in Guitar Performance. During my time there I performed in the annual guitar ensemble recitals, honors recitals and my own senior recital.
Teaching music is an integral part of being a well-rounded musician. I have been teaching music privately and in group settings for nearly 10 years. In 2014, I graduated from the University of Miami with a Master of Music degree in Studio Jazz Writing. Music has given me opportunities to play and teach in many parts of the country and overseas as well. In 2010, I attended the Keep an Eye summer jazz workshop at Conservatorium van Amsterdam and premiered original works at the Blue Note Amsterdam. In 2011 I spent three weeks in Accra, Ghana creating and implementing a music program at a local Montessori school.
I am very motivated and passionate about music and my students success. I get a ton of joy out of the smile i put on students of all ages faces in both guitar and voice! I have been playing Guitar and Singing for over 15 years and Have Performed shows with several bands in many differant states. I love all genres and am able to transcribe quickly and efficiently for my students and help them progress very quickly doing mostly what they love. I am laid back and easy to talk too and would love to Teach you or your child!!
I am an experienced musician with several thousand hours of deliberate, mindful practice in addition to extensive live performance experience. I have recording and live performance experience as a guitarist, vocalist, and bassist, along with 5 years of teaching under my belt. I am a self taught guitarist and have taken five years of voice lessons. I am a dedicated, reliable teacher who has a passion for teaching students about their selected instrument and music of all genres. In addition to guitar/singing/bass, I also play piano, drums, harmonica, and mandolin as well as various other instruments. Music is absolutely the one thing I am most passionate about in life.

Young students should start on a half size or three-quarter size acoustic guitar. Older students can start on an electric guitar, as long as they are able to hold it comfortably. Many student model guitars can be purchased for $150 to $200 new. An electric guitarist will need an amplifier and cables, at additional cost. Remember, higher quality instruments are easier to play and give the student the best chance of liking it.
At Musika, we recommend that adult students looking to start guitar lessons have a clear goal in mind. Whether you are a beginner looking to get started and learn the basics, or an advanced player looking to push their skills that little bit further, the experienced teachers in our network can help you to achieve those goals. It can take several months before you start to see serious progress towards your goals, as you slowly develop the techniques and skills over time. The quickest and most efficient way to achieve your guitar playing goals is to take regular lessons and practice diligently.
Students can start taking their lessons as young as 6 years old with a half size classical guitar (with nylon strings) by playing simple melodies on the top strings. Every child learns and develops at their own pace, but by age 7-8, students will be forming and playing various guitar chords and learning simple songs that they can sing along to. Older students will graduate to being able to comfortably handle a full size guitar around the ages of 10-12, which is when many students become more interested in learning rock guitar and want to get an electric model.
Musika deals primarily with home lessons for students. The location is the only difference between our in-home lessons and our studio lessons. As they do not have to travel to their lessons, home guitar lessons can be highly convenient for those parents and students with a busy schedule. For younger students in particular, having guitar lessons in the comfort of their own home can be of great benefit. They will feel more safe and relaxed in familiar surroundings, allowing them to focus on learning and enjoying playing the guitar.
At Musika, the teachers in our network create lesson plans that are specifically customized to meet the needs of each individual student. These experienced teachers can develop the skills of a complete beginner, or help to take an advanced players skills to the next level. Students can expect to learn such things as how to correctly hold the guitar, learning the notes on the fret board, and how to tune their instrument. Students will also learn techniques such as fretting, fingering and strumming, and will learn to play various scales and chords, such as open chords, power chords, and barre chords. They will learn how to combine these elements of guitar playing to create or cover complete compositions, as well as learning music theory and how to read music. Last but not least, teachers will help students to realize the joys and fun that learning to play the guitar can bring!

I would like to thank Polina for the series of classical piano lessons I've taken recently. Polina is a fantastic teacher and a high class performer, and I'm really happy I had a chance to meet her! I believe anyone can benefit from the teaching method Polina is practicing regardless of the student proficiency - from beginners to advanced performers. It was a pleasure for me to study classical piano courses under the guidance of such an intelligent & professional teacher! Without doubt, my playing technique has improved a lot and I have signed up for the new classes online already.

This is the 1st time I've ever taken lessons, and Robert has been a pleasure to work with. I've made quick progress and have enjoyed the process. I'm always listening for those tips that you can't find in a book. I can count on Robert to be strict on the fundamentals and am clear it will make a difference in the long run.

My daughter really enjoys her lessons with Pavel. She is an absolute beginner and Pavel is right with her as she learns the basics. She is completely engaged and always looks forward to her lesson. He packs a lot of learning into their 30 minute time slot - he gets right to it as soon as he walks in the door! He is a great teacher - we highly recommend!

Angela has been a perfect match-up for me. She is warm and welcoming, and also serious about teaching - she keeps our time focused and on track. What I truly appreciate, as a new singer anxiously preparing for an event, is the confidence she gives me. Angela is very encouraging. I enjoy coming to class.

When I started with Darrell, I didn't know anything bout music. Nothing. We started with basic music theory & moved into scales and reading. It hasn't been very long at all, but my confidence is growing quickly. He does ask a lot from you and he expects you to keep up. But I can honestly say that if you are willing to work hard and spend the time at home doing what he asks, you will see the results. He wants you to succeed and takes pride in watching you grow. If you want it as bad as he does, you will see the result very quickly.

Danette is a delightful instructor. She always brings a wealth of knowledge, excitement, and enthusiasm to piano lessons with my daughter. She is not only skilled at piano, but she has a wonderful voice quality that she uses to help convey certain techniques and to highlight various points where she intends to draw the students attention.

My 4 year old son is quite energetic. Another piano teacher tried to teach him before Peter and could not get my son to listen to him at all. That teacher told me that my son had no interest and that we needed to wait before having my son take lessons. Peter started teaching my son a few weeks later. He quickly developed a great rapport with my son. I was astounded when my son sat down and listened to Peter during the first lesson. Peter has remarkable patience and is a natural working with children. He knows when to follow the child's lead. My son is very interested in how the piano works, so Peter takes the time to teach him about this. He is able to use my son's interests (superheroes, Lego, Star Wars, etc.) to refocus him back to playing the piano. Between lessons, he brainstorms on how he can teach my son better. For example, my son was playing the notes, but not understanding rhythm, so Peter looked into it and came back the next week with a new plan which helped. My son looks forward to his lesson every week. When he hears the doorbell ring on lesson day, he exclaims, "Yay! Peter's here!"

My 4-year-old has had several lessons with Martina now, and he has learned a lot. Obviously, it is challenging to teach such a young child, and he has learned quite a lot in a short time, and is very excited to learn about violin and for his lessons. I think Martina is doing an excellent job, is quite patient, and is teaching him in such a way that he can really remember his new skills from week to week. We look forward to many more lessons with Ms. Martina!

I honestly cannot say enough positive things about Rachel. We met her through CYT where my daughter took theater classes from Rachel and was directed by Rachel in several musicals. Because Rachel was so wonderful to work with and so clearly talented at teaching and directing, several years ago, my daughter started private vocal lesson with her and I have seen my daughter's vocal abilities grow in leaps and bounds. Rachel is an ace at picking music to work on that stretches abilities while at the same time, keeps vocal lessons fun. I highly recommend her as a voice and theater coach.
