I have participated in the BU Tanglewood Institute Young Artists Orchestra and the Texas Festival Orchestra at the Round Top Festival Institute. I studied transverse flute at Moravian College with Robin Kani from 1985-1992. From March 1996 to May 1997, I studied with Brooks De-Wetter Smith at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I studied recorder for two semesters at Moravian College with professors Dr. Paul Larson and Dr. Larry Lipkis, composer in residence and performer with the Baltimore Consort. 1994 I began to teach privately. Music has been a big part of me for most of my life. I started playing piano at age 8 and saxophone at age 9. During hish school and college, I recieved many awards and recognitions for my playing. I recieved my Bachelors in 2014 and my Masters in 2015. My beginning students learn the fundamentals of their instrument. I want every student to get a well rounded education from me. Woodwinds students study from Essential Elements. Young piano students use the Faber collection and older students use the Bastien series for the Older Beginner. Practical Theory from Sandy Feldstein is used for instrumental students. Spike and Party Cat piano theory books is used for younger piano students. I encourage students to learn solo pieces and memorize scales so they can audition for various festivals. Read More

If a student wants to work on one specific style, be it classical, jazz, or pop oriented music, I will show them the music, materials, and methods required for mastery in that subject. For example, for the advanced high school student I often mold my teachings around college audition requirements and all-state, regional band auditions. Otherwise, particularly for younger styudents, I am not very performance oriented. I think it is more important to learn to "play" at music rather than plan and prepare for multiple recitals.
