My experience in teaching is still growing. I have previously taught freelance back in 2010 assisting high school students prep for NYSSMA. I have taught toddlers as well as adults since then off and on but am looking to start to teach more consistently and regularly. I also have experience with children and young adults with special needs. I began teaching when I was in High School, where I had several students of varying ages and skill levels.  I taught private lessons in their homes.  I encourage regular practice, and weekly lessons.  A mixture of method books and my own personal written lessons I have found to be the most effective teaching strategy. Books with a variety of popular solos I also utilize.  Method books are necessary for skill, but can get boring and repetitive for younger students.  Keeping things fresh and interesting is my main focus in teaching. The method books I use vary depending on the student and the district they attend. If a student isnt committed to one particular type of method book, I usually suggest the Standard of Excellence series because I feel it has a logical order of progression in terms of concepts. For students interested in learning jazz, I typically use books written by Jim Snidero, Lennie Niehaus, Hal Leonard, and Bob Mintzer just to name a few. Read More

For beginning students I typically start with Hannon and my own finger exercises. I ask the the student to draw notes on a staff so they can get familiar with reading and composing music. All students from beginner to advanced, are given warm up exercises and recommended pieces to play . After 30 years of teaching piano, organ and flute ,I have written my own lesson books series.
