I started teaching private lessons during college, and I have consistently had a studio of students including elementary schoolers to adults. In my last semester of undergraduate studies, I student taught with an elementary and a high school band. My favorite thing to teach is flute lessons! When I teach lessons, I like to make sure students feel comfortable and also challenged. They should know that mistakes are not a bad thing, but we are always working to improve. Read More

For elementary students, I usually have them work out of Standard of Excellence books or Rubank Elementary method books and supplement them with fun popular music they enjoy to play. For middle school and high school students, I encourage them to work on appropriate solos, scales, and duets we can play together. For adult students, I typically ask them about their musical goals and interests so that we can make a plan that they’re excited about! Read More

I make it a point to ask all students (or parents for my younger ones) to purchase a notepad where assignments, expectations, exercises, tips/tricks can be written down to help them progress during the year and into the following week of lessons. My favorite aspect about teaching is pushing students beyond the limit they place for themselves. That being said there must be a mutual understanding that I will do all I can to help students get over a "learning hump" as I call it- I have access to a plethora of journals, articles, teaching websites, a personal library, all of these materials can be scanned, printed out, emailed and whatnot for the benefit of my students. Instruments: Saxophone Flute Clarinet
I have taught all ages how to perform music. I have experience teaching from elementary ages through collegiate level students and beyond. I use positive reinforcement to get students motivated about practicing and I always want to put their musical interests as a top priority. I have found that if you let the student start their journey by playing genres they are familiar with, they are more likely to stick with their craft and explore more types of music. Read More

I also studied privately with Charles Banacos (increible piano and jazz teacher), Jerry Bergonzi, Joe Viola, Joe Allard ( whose Saxophone methods I teach, who was the teacher of every major saxophone player in his day including Coltrane, Wayne Shorter, Michael Brecker, and countless others ) , learned circle breathing from Rahsaan Roland Kirk, recorded 2 albums at Grammavision with Al Macdowell (Bass player for 40 years with Ornette Coleman). recodered and learned as much as I could grasp from Don Cherry and Ornette.
