For beginning students (adult and children) I like to be sure that their knowledge about fundamentals is solid. I believe ear training is paramount. Not everyone can sing, but secure pitch discrimination can help all musicians (even percussionists). I encourage all students to participate in ensembles (band, choral also). My teaching experience dates back to my high school days, as I began teaching private lessons and running sectionals at the conservatory in my hometown. I have been consistently teaching students since either in my home studio, or at different private and public institutions. I have held different faculty positions in colleges in the past 6 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument.
