I am a third-year undergrad at NYU, studying Music Education with a concentration in instrumental performanceand I love it! I believe the most important thing about learning music is that they have to first enjoy playing the flute. I make students practice and expect them to go to certain levels, but I first make them fall in love with the flute first. For 1 hour flute lessons, I usually spend 10 minutes on tone(sound quality) and air usage, since these are the most important fundamentals of learning the flute. I make sure the right habits are practiced from the very beginning; warming up, sound exercises, technical exercises and the musical piece we're working on at the time. Comprehensive method individually structured for each student.  Books depending on level and age start with Standard of Excellence and are individually chosen to support the student. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance.
