I first taught part-time Flute and Solfeggio classes at music schools while I was in collage. After I finished my Bachelor's in flute performance, I taught full-time at Lorec Antoni music school. During that time I was the principal flautist at the City Symphonic Orchestra - Modus, were I performed all around the region. I played as a member as well as a soloist. I graduated from James Madison University where I studied with Carol Kniebusch Noe, played four years in the JMU Flute Choir and in the JMU Wind Symphony. My methods are different for every student, but I always start with fundamentals. This includes scales, exercises to improve sound and intonation, reading, writing, improvisation, and most importantly listening. Depending on the path the student choses, some areas will be focused on more than others. I will often introduce more advanced concepts early if the student displays interest in them. I am not the kind of instructor who will say "play your etudes first and then we can talk about improvisation." I had an opportunity to start teaching early as a student leader in my high school music program and continuing into college. I've found that my students have a much higher level of success when they are encouraged to practice regularly at home. I use classical repertoire to build techniques across styles and modern music to keep students engaged. If they aren't enjoying themselves, I'm not doing something correctly. With intermittent lessons on musical theory along the way, the student will begin their technical foundation.
