Most importantly, we are all here to have fun and enjoy playing music.  I always encourage my students to take risks, have a laugh and ask questions.  I work to build the student's confidence in their playing, ability to practice well, ability to perform in public and ability to be comfortable making mistakes.  We all progress at various rates and progress at any level is an accomplishment that each student should be proud to achieve.  If a student or parent of a student expresses their interested to move forward in a serious capacity, I am more than happy to encourage such movement. I am a passionate teaching musician whose practice spans classical training, jazz, beatboxing, improvisation, electronics and the avant garde. I graduated from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in 2011 with a Master of Music in Flute Performance. Since moving to New York in 2011, I have had the privilege of performing with musicians from the Bang on a Can All Stars, Juilliard, eighth blackbird, the Eastman School of Music, ExhAust New Music Collective and Project Trio. In May of 2023, Lynlia graduated with a Master of Arts in Performing Arts Administration at New York University. She previously received a Bachelor of Arts in Music and Chinese Language Literature at CUNY Hunter College under the Macaulay Honors Program. In 2019, Lynlia completed her capstone year in Taiwan under the American Councils Language Flagship Program, where she studied Mandarin extensively and worked as an intern at the Taiwan Philharmonic. When working on a solo piece we will look at it as a whole, go over any terms or passages that the student has questions about and then work in sections as well as addressing the entire piece and the musicality of how to approach and play the piece.
