I encourage student involvement and investment by allowing them to individualize their own lessons. What are the student's goals? Where do they need to be at a certain point in time? All students regardless of goals will learn fundamentals of music theory as well as flute tone and technique. I also encourage flute students to learn a variety of genres, even of those outside of their main focus. I have been teaching Prek- 8th Grade general music, choir, drama and instrumental lessons for the past 5 years. I am a 2009 graduate of Rutgers University with a BA in Music and a 2011 graduate of Teachers College, Columbia University with an MA in Music Education. For example, for the advanced high school student I often mold my teachings around college audition requirements and all-state, regional band auditions. I have not yet started my teaching career but I am super excited to start gaining experience with all of you! I have taken a flute pedagogy class at my undergraduate, Gettysburg College and a woodwind and brass method class during my graduate studies at The Longy School of Music. I have much more experience performing and participating in summer flute masterclasses.
