This is important because students will need to work in a group setting, make judgment calls, self-evaluate, evaluate the group, and strive towards improvement. As an educator, my goal is to foster an environment of community, leadership, integrity, trust, and mutual respect. Through the use of section leaders, student conductors, and assigned responsibilities, I hope to provide students with opportunities to assert themselves as leaders and make decisions that will affect the group in a positive way. As a professional teacher, I love sharing the joy of music with the students. As part of my job, it is toeducate the students in order to give them enough knowledge to enjoy music on their own. Helping thechildren enjoy music requires making the lesson content in the way that is adaptive for the students.Finding things that the students can connect to, can have fun with, and can enjoy learning will be thestrategies that I would utilize to make the learning meaningful, relevant, and exciting for all learners. For example, I will incorporate learning rhythms to a beat or a song that the students will enjoy listeningto. I have had many years of experience playing in different kinds of ensembles, including solo, chamber, band, and orchestra. I have played with the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra at some of the city's most prestigious venues, including Symphony Center, Millennium Park, and the Harold-Washington Library. Read More

I always figure out where a student is at, and prefer to grow off the student's strengths as opposed to harping on their weaknesses. I have been in lessons before where teachers couldn't get past the smallest details, and these ruined the experience for me, as well as greatly affected what I was able to accomplish in my lessons. The opposite is also true, in that I have had teachers that haven't even informed me of a weakness that I had, and I wasn't able to improve because of it. Read More

As I said earlier I tend to use the Rubank and Essential Element books in lessons. I start with seeing what the students goals are and making a goal sheet. For instance if a student is interested in Musicals. We will start with our basic warm up and techniques but on top of that I would assign an excerpt from a musical that correlates with the current lesson. So that way the student is working toward their goal and having fun doing so. Read More
