I am passionate about connecting students to their own unique voice through discovering the relationship between the body, the brain, vocal discipline, and personal expression. I work on creating a resonant and freely produced sound throughout all the registers. My goal is to promote healthy vocal technique while having full engagement in a song. I believe that singing is not only learning the right notes and words while delivering a lovely sound: singing is conveying your emotion, your engagement, and your character’s situation to the audience. I started teaching jazz, general music and woodwinds at the Rubin Academy of Music in Israel, in 1990. Since then, I have been teaching privately, in private schools and colleges, giving masterclasses and clinics in Germany, Holland, Russia, Canada, Israel, United States. My teaching approach is highly individual and I help a student according to his individuality and needs. Thus, I have been teaching saxophone, flute, clarinet, piano, recorder, voice (popular, classical, church music), music theory, music notation, jazz theory., harmony and improvisation, etc. Read More

Each student has a unique learning style, and I strive to adapt my teaching style to be as effective as possible. The best teacher will teach their student how to teach themselves and how to critically listen to their playing. The most significant thing to know about my teaching style is that we will continually discuss methods of practice and the reasons behind what we are learning. I help my students to set realistic short term and long term goals and give them the tools to reach those goals. Read More

Teaching is the best decision I have ever made in my entire career. When students first start I always ask them what their goals are and what they would like to work on. My goal for them is to watch them grow into the best musicians they can be because I see so much potential in them. For band students, during marching band camp, I asked my students to play what they could and gave them feedback afterward including suggestions on how to correct bad habits early on. Read More

My teaching style matches the personality of the student. I can vary my lesson from high energy to calm and sensitive. As an previous elementary school music teacher to 3000 students, I have the ability to read a student and find the most effective way to teach immediately. When it is appropriate, I enjoy teaching in the Orff-Schulwerk approach to music education, which means making music through movement, speech, play, and creativity. Read More

Having taught many students over the years, my favorite books for young beginners are the Rubank series and Pares Scale book. These give a good foundation and progression and have easy to read fingering charts. Once a student gets going with these I introduce simple duet books so that, by playing with me, they develop a strong sense of tone and intonation. The first solo books I recommend are collections of solo's by famous composers, these give the student the chance to gravitate toward the style and composer they like best. Read More
