My overarching goal in my teaching is to instill a passion for music. Every student is different and has there own unique learning style, and I like to be able to structure each lesson to best fit the learning styles of the student. Every student learns and progresses at there own pace, and will adjust to the pace of every individual student. I am a graduate of the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where I received a Bachelors of Music in Flute Performance and a Minor in Art History in May 2018. While at IU, I played in many ensembles focusing on chamber music, and I studied under Kathryn Lukas. I am originally from Marietta, Georgia, where I studied with Christina Smith. After completing my bachelors degree in 1998 at UC San Diego, where I studied with ground-breaking improvisers George Lewis and Bertram Turetzky I moved to New York City and began teaching privately, as well as performing with a variety of groups, including: the Hungry March Band, the Zagnut Cirkus Orkestar, Ansambl Mastika, Raya Brass Band and Sherita. I am a passionate jazz saxophonist, composer, and educator originally from Los Angeles area. In 2018, I graduated with B.A. in Saxophone Performance with an emphasis in Jazz Studies at California State University, Long Beach. I am currently attending Manhattan School of Music for a Masters degree in Jazz Composition. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to perform with CSULB's Concert Jazz Orchestra at the 2017 Elmhurst Jazz festival in Chicago, the 2016-2018 LA Jazz Institute, and even have one of my compositions performed at the 2018 JEN Conference in Dallas Texas. My teaching philosophy is to take away negative self-talk like "I can't" or "I'm bad at this" and replace this with "this is uncomfortable right now, and together we'll make it comfortable". Daniel is a versatile musician, composer, and educator. He began playing saxophone at age 11, and has since expanded his repertoire to include multiple woodwind instruments. Originally from midcoast Maine, Daniel has been based primarily out of New York since 2008 when he began his studies at Purchase College. Daniel looks forward to remaining an active teacher in the tri-state area, and a return to Purchase College, this time as a graduate student and he has also recently moved full-time to New York City! He has collaborated with Joe Lovano (Coltrane Ballads Project), Kurt Elling, Marcus Miller, Ingrid Jensen, Vince Mendoza, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Savannah Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Metropole Orchestra. In 2009, Daniel received a Latin Grammy nomination for Bobby Sanabria'sTITO PUENTE MASTERWORKS LIVE, which features Daniel on lead alto.
