My lessons are very structured in style and format. Scales, exercises and method books will be the basis of every lesson. With intermittent lessons on musical theory along the way, the student will begin their technical foundation. I graduated from James Madison University where I studied with Carol Kniebusch Noe, played four years in the JMU Flute Choir and in the JMU Wind Symphony. My methods vary between each student. For beginning students, that are not learning in a school setting, I typlically start with Hal Lenard's Essential Elements For Band. Once the student had progressed, I will start to introduce solo repetoire that the student will be instested in, which could be pop tunes or other type of music. I use a variety of clarinet method books based on my current professional library. I also order based on student need. Method books are selected based on the students ability. Lesson plans are developed based on the students abilities, progress, and expressed goals. After each lesson, I email out to the student and their guardian, a run-down of what was covered with next weeks agenda and what the student should practice. Read More
