I currently go to school at Nazareth College and am in the graduate program in creative arts therapy and am an intern at Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, IL. I have worked with older adults with alzheimer's, adults with mental health issues, hosptialized children and adolescents, and survivors of stroke. I plan to work in a medical facility as a music therapist once I graduate from school. As I said earlier I tend to use the Rubank and Essential Element books in lessons. I start with seeing what the students goals are and making a goal sheet. For instance if a student is interested in Musicals. We will start with our basic warm up and techniques but on top of that I would assign an excerpt from a musical that correlates with the current lesson. My teaching style is casual with an emphasis on developing love for the music alongside a technical and musical understanding of it. I encourage this by promoting practice methods which are likely to foster a deep experience of the music in the student, setting realistic but challenging goals in lessons which require the student to grow in order to succeed, and providing honest feedback with lots of encouragement.
