As students progress, I like to work out of the Trevor Wye books as well as Taffanel et Gaubert Daily Exercises. For every lesson I develop a lesson plan that organizes the lesson so there is no time wasted. As I get to know the student more, I develop a lesson plan specific to the student and work on the things that need work but as well as to keep the student motivated by performing and memorizing. I use elements of Social and Emotional Learning in my teaching: students are encouraged to have their own voice in the learning process. We discuss repertoire selection, I encourage them to talk about how the music makes them feel or what they think it's trying to express. This also assists in goal setting, which I do collaboratively with the student, rather than dictate their practice regimen. I respect that lessons are probably not the only thing they're doing and I believe that respect is why students enjoy studying with me for many years. Read More

My studio is in my home and works as both a lesson studio and a recording studio, so we can even record the progress of my students so that they can hear themselves and where they can improve.
