Prior to studying at Peabody I toured professionally with various jazz ensembles, including competing for first place wins at the Reno (Nevada) Jazz festival for two years. At Peabody I studied with Fernando Laires and later, Robert Weirich where I excelled in contemporary music and difficult avant guarde performance ensembles. My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 8 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 5 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. As a member of the American Federation of Musicians, I have performed with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the Baltimore Opera Orchestra, the Baltimore Jazz Orchestra and, from 1997-2004, I was the drummer for the award-winning Peabody Ragtime Ensemble.
