I began teaching music while I was in college. Although I was not an education major, I did take education classes and learned a lot about pedagogy during my time in college. I have experience teaching beginning percussion-intermediate percussion on mallet instruments, snare drum, timpani, drum set, and orchestral percussion. I have been teaching privately since 2010, when I accepted a position as a teaching assistant at Bowling Green State University. My responsibilities included teaching private lessons to undergraduate percussion majors and coaching percussion ensembles. I also began teaching students from middle school through high school age around the same time, and my students have since included those of adult age. I enjoy working with students of all ages and levels of experience, as they all bring something unique to their lessons and allow me to bring out aspects of my personality that will engage them best. Most of my playing experience came from growing up in the church and playing in various school and extracurricular music groups. I currently play professionally but I enjoy giving back to students what others have given me over the years. I hope to do the same for my students. Throughout high school and college I played in orchestras, bands, jazz bands, rock bands and with singer songwriter friends.
