The importance of using method books is based in the student's ability to review material between lessons and using them as checklists for progress. The Advanced Student is not required to perform all the material for the next lesson, as long as he or she can demonstrate that the idea behind that particular subject matter is understood the lessons will move forward. My lessons are designed to transfer info to the advanced student so that he or she can design own studies after finishing studying with me. From my coursework as a Psychology major in college, I take care to connect with the specific enthusiasm, learning style, and pacing of each student. Ive remediated some of my lessons to better serve students who learn only-by-ear and pay with eyes closed VS others who have-to-read to coordinate themselves. I've playing in rock bands on drumset, pit orchestra on assorted percussion, marching bands in school and in community settings, and pretty much anything else you can name that has percussion in it.
