My teaching experience dates back to showing simple rock grooves to the kids at my fathers church. I had very little knowledge about music back then but I knew from early on that I had a niche for teaching. During my time at Rutgers University I was priveleged enough to work for the Rutgers Extension Division which specializes in different lesson and summer programs. I've started giving private lessons when I was a student at music school and I took great enjoyment from sharing my newly acquired knowledge. Later my first formal teaching job took place in Musicians Institute as Teacher's Assistant. I've been a member of the Los Angeles City College advisory board in 1999 and I've thought as a full time teacher at Istanbul Bilgi University Music Department from 2000 to 2008. For very young guitar students I use Dick Bennett's books 1,2, 3 to start and then as the students progress we will continue to Mel Bay books 1, and 2 then proceed to chord books and charts, some knowledge that i will personally pass on such as finger exercise's and scales, use of the I pad and some guitar apps as well. I will also share my library of songs with them and show them how to play songs they enjoy as requested. Read More

It's unfortunate when students become frustrated too quickly in the process and decide to quit out of frustration. I also like to work on the foundations of syncopation and fundamental interdependence. The final method to start is a book in rock drumming that will serve as a good Segway to other forms of music, whether it be gospel, funk, or jazz. I like to expose students to a variety of styles, but also like to incorporate their interests into the lesson. That could range from music they are interested in, topics they want to study, or breaking down a piece music they like and using it as an exercise. Read More
