Hello! My name is Daniel and I've have been a Drummer for most of my life. I grew up in Port Huron, Michigan and moved to the Detroit area when I turned 18 for college. I obtained a Bachelor's degree from Wayne State in Psychology, but my main passion has always been music performance of any and all styles. Since the age of 16, I have had massive experience touring the US and Canada, as well as in depth studio experience. Read More

I first started really getting into music when I was 13 and started playing drums and guitar, picking up piano a couple years later. In 2005 I graduated from the Journeyman Program in Musical Performance at Musicians Institute in Hollywood California. Since then I've been trying my hand at different musical endeavors such as playing in bands, writing my own music, composing for indie games as well as doing covers of my favorite old video game songs. I started teaching officially in 2007 at 20 years old, very green, and have since come into my own as an instructor. I believe my ability to read students and assess their style of learning has afforded me the great honor of watching so many students thrive and enjoy music. I now have several students who have been with me for years (one since my first year) and it's truly amazing watching them grow. Read More

I have various teaching styles that I adapt based on the individual I am teaching. Some people learn best through visual and auditory methods, while others require written instructions. I am comfortable teaching in both styles, but I have noticed that most individuals learn best through hands-on experience. Nonetheless, I can adjust my teaching approach to accommodate anyone who wants to learn how to play the drums. If a student has interest in playing the drums with other people quickly, then i will also teach them important factors that come with that. Read More

I like to take a global approach to teaching percussion. The things that can be learned by playing on a pad with drumsticks can be transferred to other instruments such as Marimba, Timpani, and Multiple-Percussion. I find it essential to teach students good fundamentals in order for them to progress without having to fix bas habits. I also like to curb my lessons to fit what each student needs. When planning my lessons, I like to assess the student and build their weaknesses up first, while praising them for their strengths and taking them to the next level. Read More

I have three main books I use; these are my drum 'bibles'. Progressive Steps to Syncopation by Ted Reed, Stick Control for the Snare Drummer by George Lawrence, and Advanced Techniques for the Modern Drummer by Jim Chapin. I like to teach fundamentals first, providing a strong basis with which to expand your repetoire. Then I like to emphasize song work. The best part of drumming in my opinion is playing with other instruments, and in addition to playing with recorded music, I encourage my students to find other musicians to practice and even perform with.
