For all of my students I start by allowing them to sit and feel the kit. Building a strong trusting relationship is important. I then proceed to dive into teaching simple 4/4 grooves to loosen the student up which processes into teaching basic rhythm studies and eventually the concepts of feel, groove, dynamics and of course timing. I began teaching at Humboldt State University in 2010, through an education program for children ages 6-15. During the year and a half I worked there, I discovered a genuine love for sharing the passion and enthusiasm I had for music with my students. My teaching experience dates back to when I was in high school, as I began teaching private lessons 5 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio. Like people have fitness plans to achieve their goals, I like to create a learning plan with the student. This ensures that the students know the direction they are going in and can make the most of every lesson. In 2006, I accepted a position with The Van-Dells and moved to Nashville, Tennessee. After returning in 2007, having received my Journeyman and Professional certificates in percussion, I was hired on in 2007 as a classroom drummer, teaching assistant, and LPW (Live Playing Workshop) instructor, all the while playing gigs with local bands and working doing recording sessions.
