My method of teaching involves a musically comprehensive approach. Through practice in rhythm, harmony, melody, theory and ear training, my players become well rounded musicians. The goal is to be able to have an intelligent musical conversation with your instrument, and to know how to play whatever you want to play. My teaching does not cut corners. I often tell young students to watch the movie "Karate Kid" and play close attention to the "Wax on, wax off" scenes. (Fortunately, there are practice supplements using play along tracks that make this process more fun and less tedious). I not teach "songs", but I do teach the language of drumming and the language of music. I am an advanced reader and all of my students will be required to read at least some music, however I do understand that many students learn by ear. Read More

There is however a useful combination of selected literature, excerpts, solos, exercises and play alongs in addition to anything the student wants or has to work on. I teach technique and fundamentals that are applicable to all styles, not just one particular style. I'm teaching you to play music. Not a collection of beats and fills. I took private lessons from local teachers and worked with Larrie London, but was cut very short due to his passing. I married in 1989 in Nashville, and moved to Wisconsin in 1990 (my ex-wife was a native Wisconsinite). I'd love to get back on the teaching circuit and share the awesome talent God has given me.
