I'll usually create a lesson plan that'll focus on all basic fundamentals that are goal-focused, while incorporating songs that'll help reinforce those mechanics! Going back to my first drum lesson takes us back 8 years into the year of 2012. I started teaching lessons as a casual event in my basement to local kids in my neighborhood. While this was taking place, I was not asking for any money whatsoever. Eventually, I started to build a community of well rounded musicians that were attaining success in my studio. At one point, I had about 14 students to teach and fit into my busy schedule. I've learned a lot from that experience and now know how to manage time efficiently with a heavy teaching load. For beginning students, I like to stress fundamentals with a twist. I encourage my students to play along with music they like to keep them interested in what they are practicing. As the student progresses, I will either compose a short solo or provide a short solo in which they can apply fundamentals to.
