For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. As I said before, I like to teach as I was taught and add things I've learned along the way. Learning any instrument, I was told, is like building a house; you need to lay a strong foundation upon which to add walls, doors, windows, and decor (styles, techniques, feels, and your own personal strokes unique to each individual....there's no roof because you can never finish learning!). Drums especially focus on the base, because of their role in any musical group. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start the first day with allowing them to perform what they have learned prior so that I can see where their strengths and weaknesses are. Afterwards, I will work on their strengths so that they feel confident to tackle on their weaknesses. Once the student has progressed in fundamentals, I will advance them to solo repertoires appropriate for their performances. For adults, I allow the students to plan out what they want and will like to learn, while guiding my instruction accordingly so that lessons are met effectively. Read More

There is nothing more rewarding than to see a student develop a passion for music! This is something that takes time to develop. I encourage students to set goals, both short and long term. I have found that one of the best ways to teach, is to teach a student to teach themselves. Then they will work to broaden their own horizons, introduce the teacher to new material that they might not have heard about without their students. Read More

The methods that I would typically use are the Arbans complete Conservatory method for trumpet and Cornet. Schlossberg´s Daily Drills and Studies, Clarkes method and Caruso. I have been studying these four methods quite some time now and understand not only the instruction on the page but the purpose of the excercise itself. So for each student and level a unique methodology would be put together. It is very important to point out that I studied these methods with masters such as Victor Paz. Read More

I love teaching drums. As an educator, my greatest joy is sharing in the success of my students, whether it be grasping a new concept, or mastering a particularly difficult technique. I believe in positive reinforcement, and acknowledging success. It is important for me to develop a trusting, encouraging relationship with my students, and I am often inspired to improve my skills and teaching techniques to better serve their needs. Read More

I've learned through experience that being too strict can contribute to a student loosing interest in practicing, so my teaching style is in the sweet spot. I push my students to always improve but I still remain patient and adaptable to different student situations. I'm always supportive and excited for my students as they grow and find their own performances and build a strong repertoire. A students happiness and success is most important to me so I'll always be a friend and make sure they're doing alright so that they can overcome obstacles and so that we can work around problems together!
