My teaching experience dates back to my days in college. Whilst teaching various high school marching percussion sections, I quickly began learning how to become an effective teacher. From those experiences, I have expanded my teaching into private lessons as well as into other sections of instruments. There are many books I use, including Ted Reed's syncopation for all levels of students, but I focus most of my time with a student to finding out what inspires them to want to learn the drums, and go from there. The first few lessons will be to gauge where the student is at technically, as well as musically. I like to cater to the needs of the student. Lessons can be as fast paced, or slow moving as the student would like. The important thing is to be comfortable with a technique before introducing new ones.
