Since 2011, during the summers, I was an employee for the New York Summer Music Festival or NYSMF for short. I started at NYSMF as a counselor and music theory teacher and I later earned a position as TA and Commercial Voice-Over Teacher. The festival is a wonderful place that hosts 11 to 21 year olds at SUNY Oneonta for 2-week session jampacked with ensemble rehearsal, solo and ensemble performances, guest artist concerts, classes, faculty/staff or student showcases, masterclasses and so much more. I am a dedicated and focused musician who enjoys inspiring my students to pursue their dreams. In 2018, I graduated from the University of Houston with bachelors in Music Education and Percussion Performance. I am currently pursuing a masters degree at the University of Michigan in Percussion Performance. I have been lucky enough to play throughout the Houston area with many talented groups such as the Houston Symphony, Texas Music Festival, Musiqa, Aura Contemporary Ensemble, and the Music Box Theatre to name a few. I find the Hal Leonard Series works as a tool for helping students understand musical concepts right away. For students who are more advanced I will plan their lessons based on what their goals are. Every student is different: Some want to compete in recitals, some want to play for their friends and family when they come over, some want to compose their own musical pieces, some people just wanna jam! During the economic crash in 2009, I took a course on Teaching to understand different age groups and varied approaches in learning. Since then, I have taught steadily and found it very rewarding. One of the hardest things to get across to the Student is that the single most important thing to do is Play. Read More

I understand that sometimes life gets in the way of our musical pursuits and I am laid back and casual in my teaching approach. I believe that all students can learn, although not every student learns at the same pace. I believe that all students need time and space to grow. Read More

I have three main books I use; these are my drum 'bibles'. Progressive Steps to Syncopation by Ted Reed, Stick Control for the Snare Drummer by George Lawrence, and Advanced Techniques for the Modern Drummer by Jim Chapin. I like to teach fundamentals first, providing a strong basis with which to expand your repetoire. Then I like to emphasize song work. The best part of drumming in my opinion is playing with other instruments, and in addition to playing with recorded music, I encourage my students to find other musicians to practice and even perform with.
