I am a motivated instructor who is extremely passionate about music, learning, and having a great time while doing both! I have taught students ranging from 3 years old to 65 years old. My approach is that we work hard, but have a really fun time accomplishing our goals. I like to engage students quickly by showing them that they can learn to play something on their instrument very quickly, but then we dive in to the theory of what we just played. Read More

I like to start by asking about a student about their prior experience (if any), interests and goals on their instrument. With my students, I generally start by tackling basics like healthy breathing and posture, producing good tone, note-reading, and rhythm. Depending on students interests, we may then gradually incorporate more advanced techniques such as playing by ear, learning longer, more complex classical or jazz pieces, music theory, and improvisation. I believe anyone has the ability to learn music. I feel it is my duty to help my students discover their own musical path. It is my passion to show you, you have the ability to overcome any obstacles you may face in music. On May 1st I graduated from Weber State University with my Bachelors in K-12 Music Education. I got the chance to be instructed by great minds like Viktor Uzur (known worldwide for the Richter/Uzur Duo) and work along side talented students like Fan Ya Lin (pianist with a professorship at Julliard). I have 10,000+ hours of teaching experience, and have been an active professional orchestral clarinetist since 2008. I also play chamber music in various ensembles, and occasionally collaborate in world music settings such as flamenco and Latin music. My students get a solid classical foundation from me, which allows them to freely explore whatever musical style interests them. Most of my students participate in extra-curricular musical ensembles, and many of them go on to major in music in college. Read More

Rather than the trial and error approach most new musicians go through to find mastery, I teach my students proper technique before diving into songs. This way, students experience fewer setbacks and gain confidence quickly. With experienced students, I focus more on playing with emotion and musicianship, starting with musical elements like dynamics, articulation, and air support. I also encourage practicing slowly with a metronome, allowing the body to learn music without the stress of failure. Read More

On guitar my goal is that the student can read in first position, play chords for five major keys and three minor, and to be able to improvise with a pentatonic scale. I start with the Noad beginning classical guitar book and the Guitar Workshop finger-style book (Hal Leonard). I also use various Hal Leonard and Mel Bay books depending on the genre the student is interested in. I use similar methods when teaching mandolin or bass. Read More
