I am originally from Alabama and graduated from the University of Alabama in 2008 with a Bachelors degree in Clarinet Performance. Then I moved to Philadelphia to continue my education. I graduated from Temple University with a Masters degree in Clarinet Performance. As a teacher, I am very motivated and persistent. My teaching is very student-driven. I try to keep the students interests as a primary goal in keeping their interest level and so that they can progress in a musical situation. When they are interested in what they are learning, they strive for success. I try to acknowledge their successes and accomplishments which helps keep them learning and wanting to learn more. The best way to learn music is to teach it effectively, and I ALWAYS am learning from my students in a variety of ways, whether it be a new group that I'm not familiar with, or another style or genre that is new and fresh. Like many of you I started playing in grade school. I wanted to play trumpet but I didn't turn in my permission slip in time so I had to wait another year. The next time I chose saxophone. I have been an active performer, composer, and educator for the last 15 years of my life recently serving as Artist in Residence at Penn State's Altoona campus. I am sort of involuntarily retired from a 30+ year career as a Worship and Music Pastor in several churches in the Midwest and eastern United States. I began church work in 1976 and left my last position in 2010. I enjoyed the opportunities to perform in several local productions of Broadway shows as well as many church-related solos and ensembles.
