I'm a professional saxophone player based in Los Angeles. At the age of 10, I started playing saxophone because my parents were asking me if I was interested in music. I started my first saxophone quartet at the age of 12. I was accepted by Shanghai Conservatory of Music's Contemporary Music department in 2012 under the instruction of the jazz saxophone professor Xiaolu Zhang. When I teach students I prefer to keep them organized on a seasonal basis; setting goals for the long term and the short term so that the student is busy and occupied. Every student has a different approach to learning and it is important to develop a plan that works for every student. For children who are just starting, I use Bastien Piano Basics Primer Level-Level 2. From here, students graduate to selections primarily from Bach, Chopin and Beethoven. For adults I use Alfred's beginner adult course. I also supplement these books with several books that I have in my personal library, such as Keith's Snell's Essential Piano Repertoire. For scales I use Keith Snell's series and for technique I use Schaum's Fingerpower series. Read More

I like my students to bring a small notebook, so that they may write their homework down, and any practice assignments.  I expect my students to keep a practice log of how much time they practice per week, in between lessons.  I always insist that setting goals and expectations for them, is very important, as well as keeping track of whether they themselves are staying on task.  I try and incorporate different ways of practicing or playing music, so that even practicing turns into being fun and exciting and doesn't feel like a chore.  Read More

When I start with a student, I try to find out what kind of goals they have in learning about clarinet. Whether it's just to learn how to play a few songs or if they want to audition into music school, I channel wherein music their passion lies into my teaching. Regardless of their goals, my hope is that with all of my students, I can give them a new perspective of music and help develop the same passion I found in clarinet within their learning and music making. There is no greater reward to me than having a student walk away from a lesson feeling more inspired to play. I've been playing the clarinet for over 20 plus years from middle school through college. I've performed in various concert bands, jazz bands, pep bands and chamber groups while in school. In addition to the clarinet, I can also play the saxophone as well. Groups that I played for includes the Palos Verdes Symphonic Band. I studied the clarinet at El Camino College and was a student of James E. Mack prinicple clarinetist from the Carson Dominguez Hills Symphony and also Studied Clarinet at California State University Long Beach under woodwind specialist Joe Stone from the Long Beach Symphony.
