Older students interested in auditioning for All-Region bands, will work on etudes to prepare for those honor band auditions. I like to use the Rubank Elementary,Intermediate, and Advance method books depending on the skill level. I would say I focus on the fundamentals, embouchure, tone, air, technique, and etc. Having a strong basic will get the students to play anything they want in the long term. For example, having a strong correct embouchure is really important in playing the clarinet. Since that time, I've taught students on Saxophone, Flute, and Clarinet at all levels, from beginners all the way to advanced players in high school.
