For flute, I use method books by Trevor Wye. If the student is a beginner, I will start the student with the Beginners Book for the Flute by Trevor Wye (Book 1 and 2.) Once the student is finished with these books, the student is now ready for the intermediate and advanced books by Trevor Wye. It is a set of 5 books that focuses on each aspect of the flute, such as tone and technique. Read More

I like to ground my teaching in a line my own teacher, Carey Bell, often told me-- "if you make a mistake, no one dies!" Music is a challenging discipline in every respect, so I encourage my students to approach it from as positive and joyful a place as possible where mistakes are not a failure but simply a sign that further work needs to be done. Achievement in performance is only rewarding when the student takes ownership of their playing, so I do everything I can to allow clarinet to be a real and positive presence in my students' lives. Instruments: Piano Clarinet
My greastest reward is seeing each student develop a greater love of music as they progress and come to be able to express their personal feelings through music. It is important that each student progress at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals at each lesson. By acknowledging their accomplishments this helps build a desire to progress and makes students eager to learn more. By helping them learn how to use the hand, wrist, arm and upper torso, they learn tone control and musical phrasing. Read More

I think the best way to teach is to start with what my students are interested in and embed music concepts and theory throughout our lessons. Additionally, I have a library of method books, lesson plans, literature, and curricula that I like to follow. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice Clarinet
I firmly believe that every student is different and therefore has their own learning style. it is very important for me to understand what their learning style is so that I can cater to that in our lessons. Through this methodology, I have found that my students have more productive lessons and grow faster as vocalists and piano players. Given that I believe every student is different, I will set goals for them based on how quickly they're able to make progress. Read More

I've been teaching music for a little over 5 years (2014). I have started many kids who don't know if they would rather learn guitar, drums, or piano. So I give them a tour of all three and show them the basics before they decide their favorite. I encourage consistent practice and practice methods that ensure that the students always feel a sense of improvement without frustration. Personally I've felt the sense of improvement after practicing but was still more agitated, but that was college, before I started teaching. Read More
