A typical lesson with me will be structured like this:Emphasis on basics (scales, studies, tuning, etc)Sight Reading and Ear TrainingLearning techniques through pieces I am always aiming for technical building through the process of working through real music in order to keep lessons fun and engaging. My methods are unique to each student and allow for every student to develop as a complete musician and begin making music as soon as possible. I am committed to helping develop all around musicians who are both proficient in the technical aspects of their individual instruments as well as knowledgeable about the theoretical aspects of creating music. I often use simple songs that the student knows as the catalyst to developing the students understanding of basic music concepts and ideas. Read More

Students can expect to work from a variety of method books to study instrumental techniques, and music theory. For beginning students I prefer Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, but also work with any method book a student uses in their band class. Students will also work from the Peters/Yoder Master Theory Series. We will also incorporate a students "favorite" music to help develop listening skills and gain a level of comfort and familiarity with improvisation from the very beginning of their lessons with me. I am a passionate instructor with a love for music and learning. I began playing piano when I was 3 years old, and I have since added the B flat clarinet, bass clarinet, bassoon, and saxophone to my collection. I have held the first chair clarinet and bassoon positions in multiple school bands for over 8 years, and I have performed piano in various venues including hospitals, nursing homes, funerals, baseball games, recitals, and competitions. For a beginner student, I tend to use the Rubank method books there are several for specific instruments. This book is just a guide though the majority of my lessons are student based. I take into consideration their level and what they can accomplish in their own practice and dedication. For adults or advanced students I want to see where they are and what they need help or work with. Read More

My method when teaching students that are starters (kids) i used books like teaching little fingers to play piano and john Thompson which introduce learning of notes, their instrument, posture, and rhythm. Most of these books are in sets and will take the student to an advanced bigger player! From here I incorporate a method of learning at least 3-4 pieces ( A piece that has mostly a melodic line, a piece that concerns more of rhythmic exercises and then to a last piece which is a study) i will also top it up with scales and arpeggios and also a sense of knowing your instrument overall, listening , Aural and also incorporate sight reading . Instruments: Saxophone Clarinet Music
My teaching philosophy encourages exploration of music with a focus on the uniqueness of each individual student and their particular aspirations, typically emphasizing reading classical music and improvising solos for Jazz or other more contemporary styles while having fun growing as a musician! I try to make sure lessons are fun and rewarding by adapting my teaching style to focus on the student's learning style and interests. For jazz students I encourage a lot of back and forth play-a-long between myself and the student or between the student and a play-a-long track. Read More
