Instruments: Piano Violin Cello Viola Music Keyboard
Post Baccalaureate Educator looking to provide guidance to musicians on their great musical journey. My degree is in Violin and Piano Performance. I studied with professors that graduated from Eastman, Manhattan, Michigan, Boston, and Curtis among many others. Ive always been interested in discovering the many ways one could teach an instrument. After learning piano from the age of 5 I started violin around 10 years old. I come from a family of non-musicians so my situation was quite special in the way I pursued music without the influence of family or friends. Read More

What advice do you have about practicing effectively?
Slow and detailed practice is key to any area you are working on, whether it be scales, etudes, or literature.
Even if it is a fast passage, you can practice it slowly but with the intent of playing it faster. I also recommend the use of a metronome. Establishing a strong pulse is key to any performance.
When will I start to see results?
The key is practice at home. They more you practice, you will see and hear results faster. Practicing renders more accurate performances by repetition. The repetition in practice is the same principle as learning to ride a bike. The more consistent you are in your practice, your muscles will memorize the movement and spacing. Practicing music is also relative to mathematics in the sense that many must drill/repeatedly practice math facts or formulas in order to memorize them. Music requires drilling or repetition to hear melodic and/or harmonic progression. The repetition also allows individuals to retain patters and movement.
Did you have a teacher that inspired you to go into music? How did they inspire you?
I had three music teachers that inspired me to become a performer and educator. Each teacher demonstrated strong performance skills and exemplary examples of what a music educator should be.
My string orchestra teacher from junior high was professional, maintained high expectations for every student, and she had a genuine concern for every student. We have a wonderful relationship to this day.
My band teacher was incredibly passionate, had high expectations, and cared for each child in a unique way. He is a great advisor and model for me even now.
My cello professor in college taught me how music can make you grow as a person. He showed me the value of the relationship between student and teacher. He was so encouraging to every student, regardless of their musical level. He inspired me to become a teacher because he saw my abilities in coaching/teaching others when I did not have any idea they existed. After 10 years of teaching, he commended me on making such an impact on students in the area. That one conversation inspires me all of the time.
Why did you choose your primary instrument?
I was given a music aptitude test at the age of 10. I earned a very good score.
The instruments that were offered at the time were of the violin family. I found the cello to have the most rich tone. I also liked the fact that the instrument had a wide pitch range.
